An Interview With Henry Howard Finance Plc

Please give us a brief history of Henry Howard Finance Plc 

1Henry Howard Finance Plc was founded in 1996 by Howard Ross. His co-director Mark Crook joined the business the following year.
The company quickly built up a reputation for providing Small to Medium Enterprises (SME’s) with financing options for all business requirements from asset finance to factoring and invoice discounting, property finance, trade finance and pension-led funding.
Originally based in Cardiff, the business moved to its current headquarters in Langstone Business Park, Newport in 2008 in order to accommodate its growing workforce.

Today Henry Howard Finance employs 40 people and has just celebrated another record year of trading, with over £40million lent in the past 12 months and more than 2,000 deals completed.

What do you consider the key market sectors to be for Henry Howard Finance? What are you doing to target these sectors? 

Our target market is SMEs and within that we have experience of working with businesses in a wide variety of sectors including IT, telecoms, retail, EPOS and security.

The vast majority of our new business comes from referrals, either from vendors, intermediaries or existing customers. This is down to the reputation we have established in providing clients with the best possible service – offering advice and support to clients at every stage of the financing process to completion. We also have access to a wide range of products which enables us to provide an extremely flexible service – something that is key to the SME market.

hhfWhat makes Henry Howard stand out from the others – why would you consider yourselves better?

We are proud of the reputation that we have built up for providing SMEs with a fast and decisive service. Incorporating our own book lending ability with access to other major financial institutions enables us to offer a service that can be tailored to the exact needs of the customer.

The fact that the three directors all have experience of running their own businesses has really informed the way we operate the business and work with our clients – we understand the needs and challenges facing SMEs and work closely with them to ensure we are providing the right funding facility for their business.

How does Henry Howard adapt to ever changing trends?

Our reach, we have over 12,000 SME customers across the UK, enables us to keep up to speed with what’s happening in the market. Our team of advisors are adept at keeping one step ahead of current trends and work closely with our clients to ensure that we are providing the right level of support and guidance.

What is the future for Henry Howard Finance?

Our plans are to cement our reputation for being the ‘go to’ provider of funding solutions for SMEs in all sectors, across the UK. We are also increasing the amount of our own book lending and expanding the range of services that we offer direct to customers to include facilities such as factoring, trade finance and stock finance.

This is an exciting time for SMEs with plenty of opportunities for growth. We plan on being there to support them every step of the way.


We are a specialist, value added distributor of mobile computing and data capture products. Underpinning all that we do is an understanding that our customers deserve outstandingly executed basic distribution services.
